RYAN KEY
Dear you, so it has arrived. Another collection of songs for the world to hear. It has been quite an adventure to this point and so many things in my life have finally come into focus with the completion of what has come to be called, Paper Walls.
The best way to describe where we are at this point in the story is to take a look at the past. If Ocean Avenue is about finding your place in the world, and Lights and Sounds is about realizing you've gotten lost, then Paper Walls is about what happens when you find yourself again. Understand that when I talk about the record my point of view comes from the guy that writes the words. I try and turn myself into words wherever I am in my life and hope that someone finds something to hold on to when they hear them.
With Paper Walls I found myself in a state of discovery. It seemed as though what has been somewhat of an identity crisis for the better part of my adult life was coming to the end. Somewhere along the way as our little band began to take flight, I realized that many people deciding who I was and what I stood for before I had really figured any of that out myself. When that happened I began to feel like there were times where I was just playing a part in a show. Life was happening so fast that I didn't have time to make sense of myself.
Last year I had surgery on mu vocal cords. It was the best thing that could have happened to me. Finally I had a chance to slow down and breath. I spent the next six months on the road getting back to basics. I did a lot of soul searching to find where I wanted to go next. What I came up with was the fact that I didn't want to spend another day of my life taking anything for granted.
Paper Walls is the story of two things I think. One is the feeling comfortable and confident in my own skin. There is a real sense of looking to the past with no regrets and towards the future with eyes wide open. There is also the continuing tale of having this adventure and discovering these things alone. I am still waiting for someone to come into my life and be "the one". There is a great contrast on the record between the themes of finding yourself and being alone.
I think lyrically this is my best. There was no confusing along the way about what I wanted to say. My hope is that you, our fans, find yourselves also as you listen. i don't imagine you will completely but I hope you will find something you are looking for. Thanks for sticking around. See you somewhere out there.

I don't think anyone will ever know what it is like to be a violinist in a rock band. To be in a league all of your own. To always second guess yourself about what people are going to like, or not like... Fortunately, I do not have to live like that. We have the greatest fans in the world, and I definitely feel the love. I can not put into words how much fun and how exciting everyday of my life is like. It is all because of you. Thank you all very much for making my dreams come true!
