Studio Day One

Here we are. January 2nd, 2007 is officially the first day of tracking for our new record. It is kind of surreal to us that we are back in the studio already. Making a new record is an amazing thing. Its a fresh start. A new set of songs we will be pouring our hearts into not just for the next two months of work but the rest of our career as Yellowcard. The energy in this place is just radical right now. LP will be laying down the first drum track in just a few minutes. Keep checking the myspace page for updates. We will do our best to give you a new message every day. And maybe even some samples of the new tunes!

Studio Day Two

Today was much more productive than yesterday. We had the usual first day hangups but today we came in and LP just started shredding. We are almost done with our third song for the day and then we will probably call it. If LP is up for a fourth then he truly is an animal. Talk to you tomorrow!

Studio Day Four

Ok...We are about to start the drums for the 9th song! LP is a beast. Today after we finish this drum track we are setting up the amps in the room and working on a new song. Hopefully we will track the drums for it right after we put it together then we will have 10 out of 15 songs done on the drums. Not all 15 songs will be on the record but it is going to be really hard to choose which ones dont make the cut because we are all really stoked on every song. Taking the weekend off so I will give you an update on Monday.

Studio Day Five

Its Monday. 2:16 west coast time. Just finished another drum track so we have 4 more to go and then we bring in the raging guitars! We are cutting out early today in honor of the BCS National Championship game between the Florida Gators and the Ohio Stete University Buckeyes. I have stated before that I am a huge Georgia Bulldogs fan which makes the Florida Gators my arch rivals...If I was Batman they would be the Joker. However..in a situation like tonght it is loyalty to conference not team. We are from the south. Both the Bulldogs and the Gators are from the Southeastern Conference or SEC. Ohio State is from the Big 10 Conference. I am sick and tired of Kirk Herbstreit on ESPN College Gameday saying that the SEC is overrated and is no match for Conferences like the Big 10, the Big 12, or the PAC 10. Well tonight I am for the first time in my life truly standing up and shouting GO Gators! I hope they show the world what SEC football is all about and slaughter the Buckeyes. Pete and I believe the SEC is the best conference in college football so tonight let it be proven. Pete will be at the game in Glendale, AZ and I hope he has a blast watching his beloved Gators. OK. Now that I have geeked out and bored you all out of your minds...have a great day and I will talk to you tomorrow.

lp is a freaking badass.... and now it is time to manufacture the biggest wall of guitars you haveever heard. we will load them with a huge punch to the face. ryan is outside stretching and mendez came in today drooling. why, you ask? because it is the first day of guitar tracking. the melody to the sick ass rhythm.... the method to the madness.... the excitement is almost too much to bear alone. i wish yall were here to witness, but i will be your ally in the fort. i will let you know how its going.... vive le yellowcard....

Studio Day Ten

Working on Saturday! Thats how bad we want to get this thing finished. Just Mendez and I in here today working on guitar tracks. Pete and I went to see NOFX at the House of Blues last night. It was incredible. They played The Decline in its entirety. For those of you who dont know what I am talking about do yourselves a favor and find out about it. Anyways...it was a pretty late night so Mendez is definitely taking the reigns today. I had one too many adult beverages last night. Totally worth it though. Taking tomorrow off so I will update you on Monday. Have a killer weekend.

Pete is thundering away on the bass for a song called "#@%d$#s and r$@&s" How much do you hate me for that one?!!! Sorry no song titles yet...Guitars are now about halfway done now and we are putting down the first vocal track tonight. Also...we will be putting up another demo from pre-production and this one has vocals on it. Remember they are just rough demos...hope you like it.

Studio Day Fourteen

we are in the studio and things are going very well. mendez and ryan have been vigorously planning the six string punch to the face.... they were at it for five hours today. i dont even know what they are doing, but i like it. alot... and now pete has the reins, and is so effortlessly mastering the art of the bass. this is all for your listening enjoyment.... it is getting so exciting. each day that flies by, is a day closer to my turn. i can not wait. i hope my parts will compliment their already wonderful arrangements.
on a side note.... there have been an overwhelming number of messages asking for and/or questions about violin parts. i just wanted to inform everyone that i will be compiling a book containing violin parts for most everything. i just need time to figure out the best format for the book. if you need some hints or clues to crack the yellowcard code, please message me. just wanted to let you all know a violin book is in the works.... peace out.

Studio Day Twenty

it is friday everyone. week three in the studio is coming to an end. we are working tomorrow so we arent quite ready to relax for the weekend yet. today we are trying to finish the rhythm guitars and bass on the few songs that i dont have lyrics written for. we are taking next week off because our producer, neal avron, has been asked to mix a MASSIVE record. i cant tell you who unfortunately but trust me its big. so i am hoping to get these guitars done so i can spend next week finishing up the words. i came in on the first day with a lot of lyrics still to be written but the last week or so the curse of writers block seems to have been lifted. i am really happy with what ive come up with so far. everyone have an amazing weekend. talk to you monday.

Bass tracks, Recruits and Television programming

Greetings all yee on the information highway. I've been hiding this whole time. Actually I've usually either been sleeping on the couch, catching up on HBO shows or playing piano in a room somewhere. Today was the final day of recording my bass guitar tracks. Some people call it the "Thunder" but I like to call it the "BALLS". All of these songs are sounding better everyday as we tidy them up with little nicks nacks here and there. Ryan (Key) has been laying down some splendid vocals to tickle your insides while Ryan (Mendez) has been saucin' it up with riffs that'll make the hair on the back of your neck stand up and then literally catch on fire (so when you first hear this record and smell burning hair, it won't just be a figment of your imagination) Sean is practically bald, that's why his hair-do changed.....it's a wig!
" Peace out......violence in"

yo.....

we are back in the studio today after a short vacation. this recording process has been drawn out a bit, but i think it has worked out for the better. i have just been putting the finishing touches on my violin parts and string arrangements. its funny, it feels like this has been a small spring break of sorts.... all of us have gone to our respective homes and just cut loose and relaxed. this may be our only vacation this year after we release the record! over these past two weeks i have been settling into a new casa, and enjoying the home life. my papa bought me a grill, and it works fantasticly!! i am a small whiz in the kitchen, and have put together many little masterpieces in the time off.... so, im off to work! tune in thursday for a much needed webisode and we are working our lil bums off to get this record finished up asap! see ya!

Ryan...where have you been?

Good question. I have been paying no attention to myspace that's where. I have no excuse. But here I am...here we are. I was really trying to keep up with my blogs by numbering them according to what day we were on here in the studio but I have totally screwed that up too. No idea what number we are on. That's my bad news for the day. The good news is we finished the first song for the new record yesterday. When I say finished I mean we sent it off to be mixed. It is a good feeling, a "we can see the light at the end" kind of thing. Also while I have been gone lyrics are almost finished and we have a title for the record...unfortunately I can't tell you what it is yet but I think its a good one. So while you sit there at your monitor and fume with anger that i just told you we had a title that we can't tell you, I hope you are having a radical week and I will be in touch.

its friday, you aint got s*.t to do....

so we are hustlin to get the finishing touches on this record. this album of albums. this masterpiece... well, you get the idea. we have only a week left. this is crunch time. and while all this shit was happening, we still made time to get you a webisode. we tried as hard as we could to get it up last night, but alas.... we are late as usual. fashionably late, as we call it here in sunny california. so enjoy. our latest cinematic treat.... and just know, we are working our feeble, little fingers to the bone in here. i think id almost rather be in a sweat shop, making hundreds of pairs of shoes a day.... this is a cry for help. if someone reads this, please help.... im trapped here, chained to the wall.... help....
-Sean
ps. well, the webisode was supposed to be up by now. sorry. and pps. i was kidding earlier. we are having a great time putting the icing on the cake. stay tuned.

done and almost done....

the string arrangements are done!!! i would scream it from a mountain top.... i am so happy. it always takes 5 years off my life when i do this. its not that it is hard to write string parts. i just want to write the most fitting string parts. and not just keyboard-sounding sections. i love writing them though. i love it because i love our band. i love lps parts and his drums and petes guitar and bass skills, mendez's hands of fire and ryans songs and his voice of heaven. this record is gonna be awesome... so today is a great day. just a couple more finishing touches. thank you all for your support. have a lovely day. i know i will. there may even be some celebratory beverages in my near future.... mmmm....

roll credits...

it has arrived. the last day of recording is upon us. we will probably be here until the wee hours of the morning because there is still a ton of work left to do but we are almost there. as we sit back and listen to these songs it is all smiles in the room. we started pre-production for the album on october 15th, 2006 and will finish early morning on march 22nd, 2007. five months of work and i have to say we are so proud and excited to give these songs to you all. as the dude who writes the words...i had so much to say and didnt even know it. when i listen now it is awesome to hear what has actually been going on in this head of mine for the last year or so compiled into one body of work. i can only hope that there is something for every fan of yellowcard to hold on to. i also hope that you have enjoyed watching the webisodes and reading the blogs from the studio. it has been fun keeping everyone involved. as we start touring this summer we will do our best to stay in touch like we have been since we started making the record. its just nice to know that there are so many of you out there giving us the support that you do. thanks for being a part of another record. we cant wait to hear your thoughts when you finally hear it.
